This is the day we received our key... technically a day or two before papers were final final, but still... we were excited.
Jordo redid the kitchen. He widened the base of the island and added gorgeous trim to all the cabinet ends and crown molding to the tops. We wanted to make the most of what we had but weren't in love with the orange-ish builders cabinets. It will eventually be painted white, which was supposed to happen before Christmas, but we will see!
And we lived in a giant crazy mess for several weeks!
We redid the floor in the kitchen, dining room, hall, and front entry... replacing it all with wood. We probably wouldn't have touched it but the dining room was carpeted, and with kids that's not fun! So after we decided to change that it just sort of snowballed... and we love the result!
Floors, mid process!
Slightly more detailed shot while they are getting started.
Jordan's Island... LOVE!!!
A look-through into the kitchen and dining room of the newly finished flooring.
Finished entryway... doesn't that look amazing? We love how it turned out... and it will be nice to have the tile there for when people come in with snowy shoes all winter.
Cleanin' the place up a bit to get ready for Thanksgiving!
This is where little E has been resting amidst all of this craziness and chaos... she has been a pretty good sport, as has M, those two girls love the new house, although I am sure they didn't love it when we were busy painting and building and cleaning all day every day those first few weeks!
This is us, ever so slightly more clean and organized. Go figure though, those two couches there around the fireplace (which we found on ksl for $75 total, yay!) came to us the morning after Thanksgiving. Oh well, even if there wasn't a lot of hang out seating on Thanksgiving at least the crazy sawdust and table saw and pile of kitchen supplies was sort of cleaned up. It looked pretty good if I do say so myself!
Ohhh, the dishwasher. That dishwasher. Gave us a headache for quite a few days. Or Jordo mostly. We knew it was leaking when we moved in but didn't have a chance to fix it before they installed the new wood floors. So poor Jordo was on his back watching water spill all over his new wood as he tried over and over again to fix the darn thing.
And guess what? It is officially working. I have the HANDIEST husband ever. No joke. I am quite serious on this one!
Fixing the clown molding. We spent all night one night adding crown molding to the top of our cabinets. When we stepped away at the end of the night I said, huh... looks a little funny, almost like it should be in Disneyland... maybe toon town. Yeah, our crown molding had bowed and we had nail-gunned it to the cabinets that way. Oops. So this is us fixing it, pulling it off and down and re-nailing it, awesome. At least it looks good now!!
Our messy living room, which still looks basically this way.
There is an area on the main floor that the original floor plans titles as a formal dining room, but it's just a weird corner of the family room... so we've turned it into a library corner with two shelf sets and a desk... I would love to have an overstuffed chair or game table in the corner as well one day!
Wood putty. Wood putty. Wood putty. We wood puttied so many nail holes and cracks and whatever else that I would happy if I never saw wood putty again. In my entire life. And we had to do it over and over and over again. And the sawdust drove me nuts! But I think we're done now. Right? :)
And here's a little teaser for what happened next in the kitchen... I love when you are getting ready to cover something and you can graffiti it all you want, very fun feeling to write on your walls (or kitchen floor mom and dad!) like that!
TO BE CONTINUED...
:)

keep sending more pictures, I am enjoying the process from a distance. (Is that because I am not in the middle of it and don't feel guilty about not coming over during the day to help you out?)
love, mom
