I felt extreme joy to hear him bless her. One of the things that stuck out most to me was joy. He blessed her to seek out the joy in life. I felt as though a ray of sunshine had poured down on her. It was perfect.

The dress was my Father's when he was a baby. It is so soft and delicate. It as special to me to think about that as I put it on her. My siblings and I were each blessed in this dress, as well as her cousin E and her sister.

So many precious children of our Heavenly Father have worn this for so many special experiences. The dress has a history, a story, a connection.

I plan to have each of my children be blessed in this dress, as long as it holds up, but I have no idea what the future holds for it after that. I wanted to know that my children would have something equally as special for their children and so I started a tradition with M. I made her, as well as E this time around, a blessing quilt.

The thing about a blessing quilt is that unlike the dress it actually really doesn't even get used. Not that the babies wear the dress for very long, but the quilt hardly gets touched. But the point is that it is there. The point is that I spent hours upon hours building it from the bottom up, stitching every thread in its place, creating something for my child, all while thinking of her, and imagining what she would do in her life.

For me, it's the emotion behind it. The process of the creation and all that went into it.

She looked beautiful. She is beautiful. Sometimes I look around me and cannot believe what I see. I could not have imagined being quite this happy. With an adoring husband and two charming little girls. It's a beautiful life and I pray that I will always be appreciative and deserving of what I have.
Happy Monday, and we love you all.

Teresa and Doug were both christened in this dress. Grandma Vi stored it away until Duncan was born and he also wore it for a christening. Then Megan, Jessi, Kate and Carter. I love it. It's beautiful. Maybe we should get more of the story from Grandma Vi. Where did she get it? Was it a gift? It has beautiful hand embroidery on both the dress and the slip. I remember having all of you kids blessed in this....and when it was time to bless Carter, I debated about the "dress", but it was perfectly fine. I wish I had documented better with pictures. You are ahead of me on that issue Kate.
love, Mom
